On the 10th of April, 2019, the Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited held a celebration for the operation of a conveyor belt system to aid main dam construction works at the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project site in Pakkading District, Bolikhamxay Province.
The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Kongkeo Saysongkham, Governor of Bolikhamxay Province, H.E. Mr. Thongphat Inthavong, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, alongside
shareholders of the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project and the relevant authorities from various ministries, the Lao media, and the Pakkading Administration Office.
The operation of the conveyor belt system marks the first major achievement for the project as it would enable the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) to be swiftly delivered from the batching plant to the body of the dam, significantly enhancing the speed of the dam construction process and subsequently ensuring that the project is on the right track towards its scheduled end of the year 2021 completion time.
Upon completion, the Nam Theun 1 dam will become the highest RCC dam in Southeast Asia, standing at 177 meters high.
Furthermore, the high capacity of the existing RCC batching plant and the similarly high capacity of the conveyor belt system could also potentially enable the project to break the existing record for the fastest RCC placing in Asia, a record that was made in China with approximately 18,000 cubic meters within 24 hours.
