On September 8, 2023, at the meeting room of the Division of Forestry in Bolikhamxay province, there was a meeting held to discuss and propose the implementation plan for the management of forests and forest land in the catchment area of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project, under the chairmanship of Mr. Bounthen Pathamavong – Deputy Governor of Bolikhamxay Province and also the chairman of the steering committee of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project. The participants included the project steering committee, the secretariat of the project implementation committee, the protected forest management unit and representatives of the Nam Theun 1 Power Company, including 43 participants, 6 women.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and propose the implementation plan for the management of forests and forest land in the catchment area of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project. The meeting detailed through the agreement of the governor of Borikhamxay No. 433/Khaps dated July 19, 2023 on the appointment of the steering committee and the secretariat of the steering committee for the management of forests and forest land in the catchment area of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project. Also, representatives of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Company presented the implementation plan for forests and Forest land Management in the catchment area of the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project during the concession period of 27 years.
In addition, the meeting participants also discussed and share opinions on many issues that were presented during the meeting. The meeting agreed to support the implementation plan and other tasks such as assigning Viengthong district Administration to appoint a team for implementation and a district committee to monitor the implementation of the project.
