Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited contributed 6,515,000 kip to the Viengthong District Security Command in Bolikhamxay Province to support a community awareness campaign focused on safe driving, drug awareness, and anti-human trafficking. The campaign aimed to educate the community on these critical social issues, promoting a safe, peaceful, and orderly society.
The awareness campaign focused on three targeted villages: Muang Muan, Chomethong, and Huayhoy. It took place from March 24-26, 2025, and was led by officials from the Viengthong District Security Office, including Pol.Maj.Gen. Khamfuean Sipaseuth, Deputy Police Chief in charge of traffic police; Pol.Capt. Bountham Khammounvong, Deputy Police Department for Narcotics Control; Pol.Capt. Kham Ouan Philaxay, Traffic Police Chief; and Pol.Sub-Lt. Thongsouk Sibounheaung, Head of the Economic Crime Investigation Unit. The campaign targeted two groups: parents and students from Muang Muan Village, Huayhoy Village, Chomethong High School, and Huayhoi Secondary School, reaching a total of 391 participants, including 171 females.
During the sessions, authorities addressed key aspects of each topic. For safe driving, they provided instruction on traffic laws, signs, and symbols, and illustrated the consequences of reckless driving through video clips and images. Regarding the harmful effects of drugs, they focused on emerging drug trends within Lao society, particularly among youth, and explained the detrimental impacts on individuals and the community. Finally, in the anti-human trafficking segment, they outlined the mechanisms and methods used by traffickers, particularly deceiving children and youth into marriages with foreigners, urging parents and students to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to these schemes.
The knowledge dissemination was met with enthusiasm and significant participant engagement. Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited is pleased to have contributed to this public awareness initiative and believes that increased public understanding of these issues will foster a more aware and safer community.
